Home Economics lesson

It was the usual home economics lesson. We stood up and greeted Ms Hashimah before she explained to us what we were going to do this lesson. We were going to sew our bear's head with blanket stitch. As she had already taught us how to sew a blanket stitch the first lesson , we started off work immediately.

I tied a knot at the end of the thread.I poked my needle through the first piece of felt before I started sewing the first and second piece of felt together using the blanket stitch.I sat down on the stool and sewed .As I sewed , I lost track of time and before I knew it , it was the end of the home economics lesson. We stood up to greet Ms Hashimah when suddenly she said that someone had poked her bottle and the water was dripping on her table , resulting in her table being wet. She told the class that whoever did it had better confess now or she will call in the discipline master.

After a moment of silence , my friend walked over to her and confessed that he did it.She gave him a earful and was still reprimanding him for his act of mischief as we returned to class. So from his mistake,I learnt that the moral of the story is not to be mischievous when in school.

Reading a book alone on the bus

It was after school.I was waiting for the bus to arrive , after about 10 minutes the bus arrived. Guess what do I do on the long journey home sitting on the bus waiting for it to reach my house? Well , I simply read.To occupy myself , I just take out a book which I brought to school and read it on the bus.Sitting at the back of the bus where there is no passengers there , I got "sucked" into my book very soon. I was imagining about vampires , ghosts , the supernatural which the book was about.

As I was so engrossed in my book , I did not even realise when it was my stop. The door was almost closing when i realised that it was my stop.I rushed to the door and luckily the door swung back open as the bus driver had saw me rushing to alight.

I realise that instead of wasting time sitting on the bus dozing off , you could actually take the time to read books . If you read books on the bus , you could save time and occupy yourself as well as gaining knowledge.

First Day!

Today was the first day of volleyball East Zone tournament. As this was the first day , I was more or less a little nervous. Our match was scheduled to commence at 11.15 am , hence we left class at 9 am about 2 hours earlier for transport as well as warming up.

We took bus 31 to Bedok bus interchange before switching to bus 69 to reach our match venue , Temasek Polytechnic. Upon reaching Temasek Polytechnic at 10 am , there was an urgent change in our match timing , it was changed to 10.20 am . We only had 20 minutes to warm up before the match started.

We rushed to the indoor sports hall , put down our bags and started with our warm-up. The referee blew the whistle and the match started. I could tell we were all a little nervous as we did not have enough time to warm up and this was our first match.

After about 40 minutes , we finally won the opposing team , 25-11, 25-10 . We shook hands with our opponents before our coach debriefed us on how we played today.Although we did not play like how we usually did, but it shows that we really have the skills to be able to defeat the opposing team with these scores.

Unexpected!

Yesterday , my family and I went to Johor Bahru. We left at 9 am and reached the Singapore custom at 10 am. We went through the Singapore custom and took a 20 minutes bus ride through the Causeway to the Malaysia custom.

Usually , there would be a huge crowd of people queueing up to pass the customs but today there was like only 5 people! We took it that school had reopened and no one wanted to go shopping at Johor Bahru. We passed the Malaysia custom without even having to queue up! I was glad that I did not have to queue up until my legs were wobbly.

We walked over to City Square Mall.It was about 11am as we entered the shopping centre. It looked the same as last week when we also came here for shopping so we did not suspect anything.

I was pointing to the ground floor and telling my mother that there are many stalls selling new year goodies. My mother , a shopaholic, gleamed at the sight of the number of stalls and rushed down to shop for New Year stuff. After walking through all the shops for food samples ,  my mother went to the stall with most sumptious new year goodies and bought 2 boxes of pineapple tarts , 2 boxes of love letters , 500g of chilli cuttlefish and 3 boxes of spicy prawn rolls.

After all the shopping , our stomachs were already growling. We went to a restaurant to have our lunch. The food came after 30 minutes which seemed like eternity as we were really hungry and I was like drooling when the aroma of the food pierced my nose. We gobbled up the food and was about to order dessert when the waiters were closing the doors. My father asked the waiter what was happening. She replied that the Johor Sultan had just passed away yesterday and he was to be buried at 2pm , hence all shopping centres had to close at 1 pm to pay their respects.

Upon hearing this news , we went back to the customs and returned home as they would be closed for the day. When returning home , I dawned back and realised the reason why the customs were so empty. What an unexpected day!

Maths Problem!

''Argh!!!!''I shouted out in distress. I met with a challenging maths question which had me thinking for almost half an hour! I did all the questions in the assessment book without even breaking a sweat , but this particular maths question stopped me in my track of the maths solving question spree so I could have more time for watching TV.

I racked up my brains , trying to think of the solution to the question. I tried means and ways to try to solve the maths question but to no avail even to the extent of looking at the answer and trying to work backwards. Due to the intense stress caused by that stupid maths question , I felt droplets of sweat rolling down my forehead to my cheeks.

After a period of time , I was already sweating profusely still unable to solve the question! The answer I got and the answer I saw at the answer sheet did not work out , the answers were actually totally different. I decided to take the easy way out of this dilenma , which is just simply asking my elder brother (expert at maths) to help me solve the question.

My brother started working on the question..... "Ummm.... I think this question has an error. You see , the length of triangle should actually be 6 cm to tally with the answer but in the book it writes 9 cm. The publisher probably typed wrongly."

I was dazed by his answer to my dilenma ,  he actually said the question had an error and I was actually dumb enough not to realise the error in the question and I even wasted half an hour on solving a question which cannot be solved!

Through this experience , I learnt that whenever you meet with a maths question that you can't solve , don't waste your time on it just skip it . The question might just turn out also to have an error!
